Mission
The mission of The Westchester Resettlement Coalition (WRC) is to welcome refugees to Westchester County, providing them with support to help them reclaim their lives and become self-sufficient.
A joint initiative of six Westchester synagogues, WRC draws on the Jewish community’s collective history to provide the kind of help our ancestors received – or would have liked to receive – when they first arrived in America. It is rooted in the Jewish tradition of “Tikkun Olam” – “repairing the world.”
Led and staffed solely by volunteers, WRC depends on donations and grants to do its work. The money it raises helps pay for newly arrived refugees’ food, rent, utilities and other basic needs during their first few months in the United States. At the same time, volunteers help them look for jobs, find tutors or courses to learn English, and navigate the other challenges that come with being strangers in a strange land.
